What this document is for

A commercial invoice records the goods sold and their value. The buyer or destination authorities may request particular information, so confirm the requested format before sending it.

Fields to review

Invoice number and date
Identify this invoice and link it to the correct transaction.
Exporter and consignee
Enter company names, full addresses and contact details.
Product code, description and HS code
Describe the actual goods. Check classification separately; the tool does not classify products.
Quantity, unit and price
Keep the unit consistent with the quoted price and calculate each line amount.
Currency, charges and total
Separate the goods subtotal from additional charges and tax entries.
Shipment references and terms
Review buyer references, payment terms, ports and Incoterms with the named place.

How to prepare it in Tradocket

  1. Open the workspace and select Commercial Invoice in the document list.
  2. Fill the shared parties, goods, prices and shipment information. Check invoice-specific references and dates.
  3. Compare the quantities with the packing list, review any missing-field reminders, and use Print / Save PDF.

The free trial works in your browser. You can edit shared shipment data, review the live preview and use your browser’s print dialog to save a PDF. Save a JSON backup before changing computers or clearing browser data.

Before you send it

Confirm that the invoice belongs to the right shipment, every price uses the stated currency, and all quantities agree with the supporting documents. An invoice draft does not submit an export declaration or create an AES filing.

Check destination and transaction requirements with your buyer or freight forwarder. For an official overview of document purposes, see Common Export Documents from the U.S. International Trade Administration.

The packing list describes the physical packages. A proforma invoice is useful earlier, when the proposed transaction is still being agreed.
